Rodrigo Bivar + Gerson de Oliveira and Luciana Martins
This exhibition stems from a coincidence, when three artist friends, with no professional proximity, realize that, although one is a painter and the others a design duo, it is possible to perceive a relationship in the use of forms and colors, in the closeness of their references – nature and abstraction – that inform their artistic practices. The painter works in solitude in the studio, while the designers operate as a team. To promote the encounter between these two productions of distinct languages seeks, above all, to emphasize in the exhibition space the possibility of a direct and immediate visual experience of volumes, forms and colors, before any reading or interpretation. An open bridge to the place where they meet, the senses.
It is not about problematizing a relationship between two disciplines, but, through a situation of dialogue, offering a space to think about creation, to seek beauty, the pleasure in looking. While the paintings by Rodrigo Bivar establish a field of contemplation, the furniture by Gerson de Oliveira and Luciana Martins configures the spatiality of this boundary experience between art and design. Forms and colors cross each other, the riverbank extends into stone furniture, planes draw paths, volumes suggest landscapes, organic and sensual profiles soften geometry, play with perception, promote points of view. The exhibition rehearses itself as a site for being and looking, something distinct from the spaces of electronic screens and from a world defined by the overproduction and consumption of images.
