Sail and Hiatus

  • A subtle reinvention of uses and designs marks ,Ovo’s new collections that are being introduce here. In the Vela (Sail) lamps, fabrics are no longer coverings and become narrative elements. Resting on metallic structures with marble bases, pieces of linen dyed in gradient colors reveal the chromatism within their weaves when exposed to light. In the Hiato (Hiatus) armchairs, concrete and cumaru wood take turns in the roles of base, back, and seat with no alteration to the angles between the top and bottom portions, creating three sculptures for sitting. These lines reaffirm essential aspects in the repertoire of the Luciana Martins and Gerson de Oliveira duo, such as transcendence of function, while keeping their pieces useful, and demarcation of an imaginative terrain between the limits of design and art.
