We designed this bench especially for MASP – Museu de Arte de São Paulo, whose collection is considered the most important collection of European art in the Southern Hemisphere. With more than 11,000 works, it encompasses different historical periods, origins, and artistic languages.

We greatly value the function of benches in collective-use spaces, especially in museums. Their role in supporting and welcoming visitors during their visits to exhibitions plays an important part in the appreciation and assimilation of what they are seeing.

The design engages in dialogue with the museum’s buildings: the first, from 1968, an icon of modern architecture, pays homage to its architect, Lina Bo Bardi (1914–1992); the second, inaugurated in 2024 and designed by the architecture firm Metro Arquitetos, pays tribute to MASP’s first artistic director, Pietro Maria Bardi (1900–1999).

The bench’s design is particularly marked by references to the open span, an emblematic feature of the Lina building, and to the wooden wedge that serves to secure the glass easel, the architect’s iconic design for the museum, whose form can also be found in the bases of the bench.
